KARACHI, Sept 4: A World Bank Mission, led by Senior Education Specialist, Ms Rosita Van Meel, visited the Hamdard University and met the vice-chancellor Prof Dr M. Iqbal Qureshi.
During the meeting, various matters pertaining to the relevance of Higher Education Commission’s programmes and strategies to improve the access and quality of higher education in Pakistan with a wider perspective of creating a knowledge-based society came under discussion.
The mission included Jamil Salmi, Benoit Millot, Fred Hayward and Ms Yoko Nagashima.
Welcoming the mission to the varsity, the vice-chancellor of the Hamdard University briefed the delegates about the mission of the varsity and its contributions to the higher education sector.
Dr Qureshi admired the initiatives taken by the HEC to streamline and develop the higher education sector on sound footings.
He opined that the faculty development, capacity building and regulatory framework were the major issues which needed to be addressed via an extensive dialogue process between the government and the varsities.—APP
