KARACHI, Sept 3: Small dead fish, which had reached the Seaview beach on Friday morning, have now been removed as were proving a source of environmental pollution, said DHA sources on Saturday.
However, the reason behind the death of fish and their consequent dumping near the coast could not be ascertained. An official concerned in the Sindh fisheries department said that the incident was not in his knowledge.
A DHA official said that around 100 tonnes of fish load ranging from 5 to 15cm had the beach.
According to him the entire area of the beach had been cleared as the department of fisheries had removed the trash from the site, while the environment department of the DHA had sent samples of dead fish for toxic investigation to the National Institute of Oceanography.
Independent source believed that the fish, which were dumped in the sea around 3am on Friday, had reached the beach, due to high tide flow.
Another source said that fish were of the length ranging from 9 to 15cms and most of it was collected by vendors.
The dead fish could be a bi-catch and some trawlers or boats had dumped its unwanted stock in the sea.
Marine scientists are of the view that the death of fish could take place due to certain changes in the quality of water in the area.
