HYDERABAD, Sept 3: Re-polling was held in 12 union councils of Hyderabad, Tando Mohammad Khan and Khairpur districts under orders of the election commission.

There were strict security arrangements with far better voters’ turnout as compared to August 25 elections.

No untoward incident was reported.

Complaints were, however, received about defective electoral rolls, containing incomplete details of voters.

HYDERABAD: Varying turnout of voters was witnessed at four polling stations of two UCs of city taluka during fresh polls.

Ballot papers contained some banned symbols.

Re-polling was ordered for violence marred polling process during closing hours on August 25.

It had led to an attack on Market police station and registration of cases against contesting candidates.

ADP candidates are behind bars while the KPP is not arrested.

The polling began at 8am and continued till 5pm without disturbances.

Rangers and police were deployed around polling stations and near camps of contesting candidates.

In the wake of troubles of August 25 in the area of Tando Wali Mohammad and Khai road where polling stations were uprooted by mob after Market police station was attacked.

Police had put up barbed wires, closing entry of vehicles on the main road.

It caused traffic jams on connecting roads and great inconvenience to people.

The main contest in UC-4 is between KPP-backed Nasir Baloch and ADP’s Jiando Soomro, who had obtained, as per unofficial results, 1,735 votes on August 25 barring these two PS.

Mr Baloch obtained 2,222 votes.

PP Parliamentarian MPA Zahid Bhurgari told Dawn in Khurshid Town that ineligible voters, who were not resident of UC-16 had queued up outside polling stations by rival candidates just to waste time of eligible voters.

He said he had complained to the RO concerned in this respect.

At PS-199 government college Kali Mori, 486 votes were cast out of 1,345 registered votes by 5pm, showing 36 per cent turnout.

Strict security arrange-

ments were made by Rangers, police and the army and no untoward incident was reported from any polling stations of the four UCs.

These UCs include UC-3 of Tando Mohammad Khan proper, UC Shaikh Bhirkio, UC Saeed Matto of taluka Bulri Shah Karim and UC Ghulam Shah Bagrani at Moya of Tando Ghulam Haider taluka.

Due to objections of agents on voters lists in Shaikh Bhirkio, polling started late by over two hours but no untoward incident occurred.

The provincial election commissioner, Mr Ahmed Ali Halepoto and divisional returning officer, Zahir Hussain Leghari, visited polling stations to inspect arrangements.

KHAIRPUR: Re-polling at 10 polling stations of six UCs Ahmedpur, Fatehpur, Mehar Veesar, Khanpur, Priyaloi and Sabar Rind was held in peaceful environment.
