SEOUL, Sept 2: Chinese top seed Wang Liqin secured the men’s singles final with a 4-1 victory over Hong Kong’s Li Ching in the Asian table tennis on Friday. Wang, the world number one, beat Li 12-10, 7-11, 11-9, 11-3, 11-4 to win his second tile in the championships, held on the southern Korean island of Jeju.

Li had dispatched South Korean ace Ryu Seung-Min, the Olympic gold medalist in Athens, 13-15, 11-8, 11-9, 11-8, 11-9 in the quarter-finals, and Choi Hyun-Jin of South Korea 6-11, 7-11, 11-9, 11-6, 11-8 in the semi-finals.

“I was not in good shape because of fatigue and injuries,” Ryu said.

The women’s singles title went to Hong Kong’s Lin Ling, who outlasted her compatriot Lau Sui Fei 12-10, 11-6, 12-10, 11-4.

In the semifinals, Lau beat China’s Niu Jianfeng 4-11, 11-9, 11-5, 11-8, 4-11, 12-10, while Lin defeated Li Jia Wei of Singapore 13-11, 5-11, 11-2, 11-7, 10-12, 11-8.

China completed the championships with three golds, while Hong Kong won two.

Wang teamed up with Guo Yue to secure the mixed doubles title against Hong Kong duo Ko Lai-Chak and Zhang Rui with an easy 4-0 win.

Li and Ko took the men’s doubles gold, while China’s Guo Yan and Liu Shiwen won the women’s doubles final.
