BEIJING, Sept 2: World number five Retief Goosen held off a storming Michael Campbell to maintain a narrow one-shot lead in the second round of the Volkswagen Masters-China golf on Friday.
Struggling off the tee, the overnight leader found water and hit a tree in his opening nine holes but recovered to post a five-under-par 67 for a two-round total of 13-under-par 131 thanks to his blistering 64 on Thursday.

CRANS-SUR-SIERRE: European Masters favourites Sergio Garcia and Luke Donald began the 2006 Ryder Cup qualifying campaign in fine style with matching five-under-par rounds of 66 on Thursday.
The two stalwarts of Europe’s record nine-point win over the U.S. in 2004 trailed Swede Jarmo Sandelin and Britons David Carter and Garry Houston by a stroke.
Although they are firm friends and are sharing Garcia’s Crans-sur-Sierre home this week, their competitive instincts against each other will drive them on, according to Garcia.
Garcia, who finished third behind Donald in 2004, will be hoping to come out on top but the pair may not have it all their own way if Sandelin continues his revival.
The 1999 Ryder Cup player wants another chance to take on the U.S. after a crushingly disappointing match at Brookline where captain Mark James did not play him until the singles, in which he was comfortably beaten by Phil Mickelson.
