KARACHI, Sept 2: The central admission committee for colleges on Friday released the placement list of 1,343 candidates selected for admission to computer science first year classes in different colleges.

EDO Higher Education Prof Mohammad Rais Alvi said that the faculty had been introduced in two more colleges this year to accommodate more applicants. In all, admissions will be given at 13 men and 11 women colleges this year, he added.

Last year as many as 1,300 men and woman had applied for admissions, out of which 653 men and 513 women were given admissions.

This year a total of 2,000 applicants, including 960 women applied for admission, while 733 male and 610 women have been placed in the admission list on the basis of merit.

Prof Alvi said that the applicants who could not be given admission to computer science faculty may be given admission to the pre-engineering faculty

Referring to details of opening and cut-off marks, he said an increase in merit was witnessed in the case of Gulshan-i-Iqbal, National, Jamia Millia, Superior Science, Malir Cantt Boys, Ship-owners, Abdullah, Nazimabad Women, and other colleges.

The maximum and minimum marks in the admission/placement lists for different colleges are as follows:

Male: Islamia Science College (from 651 to 538), Degree College Gulshan-i-Iqbal (693-563), National College (696-522), Jamia Millia Degree College (587-435), Superior Science College (639-485), Degree Science/Commerce College Landhi/Korangi-6 (596-438), Degree Science College Malir Cantt (721-578), S M Science College (681-530), Degree Science and Commerce College Lyari(527-436), Pak Ship-owners College (723-509), Degree College for Boys, Sector 7/D North Karachi(681-432), Degree College for Boys Asifabad (576-435) and College for Men Nazimabad (703-578).

Female: Abdullah College for Women (from 664-504), College for Women Nazimabad (718-564), Sir Syed College for Women (762-607), APWA College for Women (656-503), Girls College Gizri (705-500), College for Women Korangi-6 (608-503), Degree Science College Malir Cantt (690-578), St Lawrence Girls College (737-634), PECHS College for Women (755-675), Degree College SRE Majeed Stadium Road (727-572) and Degree College Gulshan-i-Iqbal (737-556).
