APHC accepts Singh’s invitation

SRINAGAR, Sept 1: Leaders of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) agreed on Thursday to hold talks with Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and said they would proceed with courage to press for an end to decades of violence in the held Kashmir.

The APHC leaders met here to set an agenda for the Sept 5 meeting, the first between the militants and Singh.

“The APHC today unanimously decided to accept the invitation for talks with a view to proceed with seriousness, imagination and courage to find an acceptable and durable solution to the issue of Jammu and Kashmir,” Hurriyat spokesman Abdul Majeed Banday told reporters at the end of the meeting.

During Thursday’s meeting Farooq got support from all the Hurriyat constituents for opening fresh talks with India, Bandey said.

Bandey said the Hurriyat delegation would be led by Farooq. He did not say who were the other members of the delegation.

“We will be talking for a resolution of the Kashmir issue,” said Mirwaiz Umar Farooq.—APP
