Slow pace of work criticized

By Our Correspondent

LANDI KOTAL (Khyber Agency), Sept 1: Members of the Agency Council from Bara tehsil have expressed dissatisfaction over the slow pace of work on development schemes in the remote Tirah Valley of Khyber Agency.

Reacting to the recent visit of the governor NWFP to the valley, the councillors in a statement alleged that Rs390 million out of the Rs570 million allocated for development of Tirah Valley had lapsed in current year due to failure of the political administration to identify feasible development projects.

The councillors – including Ekhtiar Shah and Murad Saqi — alleged that the administration had failed to complete the work on 90km Bara-Tirah and 80km Jamrud-Tirah roads despite the lapse of four years.

They further alleged that the agency administration had furnished wrong details of development schemes to the governor during his visit to Tirah.

They pointed out that a rural health centre was sanctioned for Bar Qambarkhel four year ago but its construction had not begun yet.

They asked the governor to pay a visit of the area via road to witness backwardness of the area and demanded more powers for the agency council in the execution of development schemes.
