Re-polling in 11 UCs

Published September 2, 2005

LAHORE, Sept 1: Repolling was held in 11 union councils in the city district on Thursday. Polling was by and large peaceful, but voter turnout remained lower than the second phase of the local elections and did not exceed 30 per cent. A ban had been imposed on rallies and processions during the repolling under Section 144 CrPC.

The election commission had to arrange repolling in the union councils because polling could not be held due to quarrels or the absence of election symbols of some of the candidates on ballot papers.

Polling was held in five union councils in Ravi Town (UC-9, Qila Lachhman Singh; UC-10, Fruit Market; UC-11, Siddiqpura; UC-12, Bangali Bagh; and UC-13, Siddiqia Colony), one in Wagah Town UC-53, Minhala); three in Aziz Bhatti Town (UC-55, Mustafabad; UC-56, Ghaziabad; and UC-57, Taj Bagh), one in Allama Iqbal Town (UC-124, Sultanke) and one in Nishtar Town (UC-144, Halloke). —Reporter
