KARACHI: Minister seeks report on water contamination

KARACHI, Sept 1: Sindh Health Minister Shabbir Ahmed Qaimkhani on Thursday, taking serious notice of water-borne diseases in different parts of the city, has directed the secretary and EDO of Health, as well as the managing director of the KWSB to submit a report to him in this regard..

The minister expressed concern over press reports of the spread of water-borne diseases in Essa Nagri, Mannoo Goth and Noor Mohammad Goth of Ghulshan Town and several parts of Lyari Town.

Mr Qaimkhani also called for a report on the death of a woman and two children allegedly from the contaminated water in Gulshan Town.

“All necessary facilities, including medicines, be made available at all the government hospitals where cases of water-borne diseases are being reported,” he ordered, warning that no delinquency or negligence in this regard would be tolerated.

He said stern action would be taken against those whose negligence resulted in the loss of life.

The minister advised people to get water boiled before consuming it in order to avoid the risk of infection.—APP
