KARACHI: Teachers to get road safety training


KARACHI, Aug 31: On the directive of Sindh Governor Ishratul Ibad, teachers of city government’s education department will be imparted road safety education. This was decided in a meeting held on Wednesday. DG Mass Transit Malik Zahirul Islam, EDO Education Sikandar Ali Lakhir, DIG Traffic Falak Khurshid, DOs Education and Transport and other officials attended the meeting.

It was decided that 90 male and female teachers would be imparted road safety education from Sept 5 to 9 at Civic Centre in the first phase.

The meeting was informed that the officials of traffic police, mass transit and transport department of the city government would impart required training to the teachers on permanent basis. All such trained teachers would later impart education to children of government schools in all 18 towns of the metropolis.

It was further decided that a list of schools, situated at major roads, and where children face problems in crossing roads would be prepared. The meeting examined the initiation of traffic warden scheme in such schools and painting of zebra crossings.

It may be mentioned here that Sindh Governor Ishratul Ibad had declared year 2005 as Road Safety Year with directive to various departments to take steps for creating traffic awareness among road users. —APP
