LAHORE, Aug 30: Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif says his party will not take part in the general elections to be held in the presence or supervision of Gen Pervez Musharraf.

In a statement issued by his spokesman, Zaeem Qadri, here on Tuesday, Mr Sharif said: “Enemies of the country, Constitution and democracy have no right to rule.”

He alleged the government had set new records of rigging to get its favourites elected in the local polls.

He said await for a green signal from the presidency the election commission had withheld the results.

Mr Sharif said those changing loyalties would not be taken back. He said those hovering around dictatorship would soon meet their fate.

The PML-N leader said after returning to Pakistan, he would bring an end to what he called negative politics. He predicted that the 2006 would be the year of changes and end of dictatorship.

Mr Sharif said Gen Musharraf was more concerned about political disputes elsewhere in the world, although he should first pay attention to the situation in Pakistan. Military rulers, he said, could not improve the situation.
