HARIPUR, Aug 30: Former NWFP assembly speaker Maj (retd) Habibullah Khan Tareen announced on Tuesday his unconditional support for Dr Raja Amer Zaman for the post of district nazim.

He made the announcement at a news conference at the Khanpur residence of Raja Sikandar Zaman where over a dozen nazims and naib nazims of his group were present. They pledged support to the candidature of the former Haripur district nazim, Raja Amer Zaman.

Last week State Minister for Finance Omar Ayub Khan at a media conference announced his support to his cousin former PML-N’s provincial minister, Yusuf Ayub Khan, for the seat of district nazim.

Speaking to reporters Mr Tareen, who happened to be cousin of former foreign minister Gohar Ayub Khan, criticized his cousin Omar Ayub and Yusuf Ayub and termed them a group that had always worked for vested interests.

DROWNED: A young man was drowned in the Khanpur reservoir on Tuesday less than 48 hours after two boys lost their lives while bathing there.

Khanpur police said the youth accompanied by some of his friends had travelled all the way from Golra village near Islamabad to take a dip in the dam’s spillway. His body was fished out by local divers and handed over to the police. The deceased was identified as Ghulam Qadir, son of Haji Munsif.
