Dist nazims’ election on Oct 6

By Our Staff Reporter

ISLAMABAD, Aug 30: The Election Commission on Tuesday revised the schedule for the third phase of the local government elections and announced that the district, tehsil and town nazims would be elected on Oct 6 instead of Sept 29.

Election Commission Secretary Kanwar Dilshad cited re-polling in different union councils as reason for the re-scheduling.

Elections to the reserved seats for women, peasants and workers and minorities in the district, tehsil and town councils will also be held in the third phase.

Nomination papers will be filed on Sept 12 and 13, scrutiny of the papers will be held on Sept 16, appeals can be filed before the returning officers on Sept 18 and candidature can be withdrawn by Sept 21.

The elections will be held on Oct 6 and the results will be announced by the returning officers on Oct 10.

The commission also announced that it had notified official results of all categories in the second phase of the polling. Elections were held in 2,974 union councils in 54 districts on Aug 25, it said.
