KARACHI, Aug 30: The pro-vice-chancellor of University of Karachi, Prof Dr Ikhlaq Ahmed, paid rich tributes to the late Shaikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al-Nahyan for the setting up of Islamic centres in Pakistan where religious education was being imparted in addition to the teaching of modern day disciplines.

He was speaking as chief guest at the prize distribution ceremony for the position-holder students at the Shaikh Zayed Islamic Centre, University of Karachi, on Tuesday.

Dr Ikhlaq was of the view that the need of the hour was that in addition to the acquisition of knowledge in the present day disciplines, Islamic teachings be also imparted.

He also lauded the academic standard maintained by the Shaikh Zayed Islamic Centre.

Speaking on the occasion, a prominent educationist, Prof Dr Manzooruddin, said that varsities were the seats of learning.

Dr Manzoor asked the students of the centre to attain expertise in computer technology and English language.

The Director of Shaikh Zayed Islamic Centre, Prof Dr Khalilur Rehman, presented the welcome address.

He said that apart from Islamic teachings, the students were also imparted knowledge in computer technology, Islamic banking and various other subjects.

On the occasion, Dr Ikhlaq also performed the inauguration of a computer exhibition.

He also distributed prizes among the position holders. Those who received prizes included Najam Sehar Ilyas, Junaid Bin Yousuf and Mohammad Zakariya.—APP
