ISLAMABAD, Aug 29: Yasir Khan of Pakistan became the first seeded casualty of the ITF Junior tennis championship falling to unseeded Indian Siddharth Hande at the Islamabad Club courts on Monday.
Hande had it easy against the sixth seeded Pakistani handing him a 6-1, 6-3 defeat on the clay as he advanced to the second round.
The home players who made it to the second stage were Nasir Mushtaq, Usman Ijaz, Omer Babar, Noumanul Haq and Tanveer Ashiq.
Nasir thrashed compatriot Zulfikar Ahmed 6-1, 6-1 and Usman beat Ghulam Abbas 6-2, 6-1 comfortably. It was also a romp for Omer who hammered Abid Ali 6-4, 6-1 and Nouman who walloped Waqas Malik 6-0, 6-1.
But Tanveer Ashiq, winner of the Freedom Cup last week in Islamabad, had to put in quite an effort in beating Ahmed M. Aslam 6-4, 7-5.
On the girls side, Pakistan’s national champion Sara Mahboob was knocked out in the pre-quarterfinals by Thailand’s Prariyawat Ratanakrong 6-2, 6-2 while Sara Mansoor also fell by the wayside going down 0-6, 4-6 to Indian Tejaswini Datla.
Pakistan’s Anoosha Aslam and Indians Mythri Appineni and Sanjana Kapoor moved into the second round with straight set victories over their respective opponents.
