Call to recruit sons of retired, dead workers
PESHAWAR, Aug 29: The united municipal workers association has demanded that instead of making employments on political basis, sons of the dead and retired workers should be recruited.
The association set up a protest camp on Monday at the Bacha Khan Chowk, opposite the office of Town-I administration.
Banners inscribed with slogans in favour of their demands were displayed in the camp.
They were demanding appointment of the sons of the dead or retired employees, payment of pension to the retired employees in one go, announcement of service structure for the workers of district government, promotion of senior employees to next grades and payment of group insurance.
If the government did not accept the demands after the first stages, workers would observe an indefinite strike, Malik Naveed, president of the union, said.
He said the problems of employees had multiplied during the past four years, but the officials concerned were taking no interest for resolution.
Mr Naveed said that despite instructions of the provincial government, sons of retired employees had not been recruited and favourites of nazims and ministers were allegedly being appointed.
He said the retired employees were not being paid pensions and commutation.
He said they were trying to convince the government to solve their problems through peaceful struggle, but warned that they could resort to violence if the government failed in resolution of their problems.
