KARACHI, Aug 28: Ace golfer Shabbir Iqbal became new Sindh Open golf champion at Arabian Sea Country Club on Sunday after a final round of 70. He ended the three-day 54-hole championship with an aggregate of 206, relegating the defending champion Muhammad Munir to second spot with 209 three stroke behind the leaders.
Munir failed to match his rival’s excellent performance on the second day when he fired five-under but played the third and final round of one-over-73.
Amjad Yousuf and Pakistan Navy secured third spot among a pack of 40 golfers.
Shabbir won Rs77,205 prize money, Muhammad Munir Rs52,810 and third placed Amjad Yousuf Rs32,880. Imdad Hussain collected Rs24,920.
PAF’s Nisar Hussain shot the best final round with three-under-69 while Matloob Ahmed and Shabbir Iqbal played two-under and Saleem Inayat played one-under in the final round.
Among the amateurs Muhammad Ali Hai registered win by a lead of 13 strokes, over Taimur Hasan. Wasim Rana finished third with 238.
Umer Saleem grabbed the net event with 215 and Naveed Ahmed and Haris Javed were joint runners-up with 220.
Sohail Siddiqui claimed the gross seniors’ title while former Pakistan cricket captain Zaheer Abbas was runner-up.
Tahir Karamat lifted gross title while Abdus Samad was runner-up. Col M Z K Burki won net event.
