PESHAWAR, Aug 28: NWFP Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani said on Sunday that the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal would not compromise on the issue of seminaries.

The religious centres had been producing men of character who contributed to the society, he said while speaking at the convocation of Darul Uloom Sarhad.

Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Maulana Fazlur Rehman said it was the responsibility of seminaries to protect the Holy Quran, Hadith and Islam.

The chief minister said the present time had multiple challenges for the outgoing students. He said Muslims had to work hard to save their religious identity in the current unfavourable environment.

He said no seminary in the province was involved in terrorism. He said no institution in the country had produced better people than the seminaries.

He said the law and order situation in the NWFP was better than that in the rest of the country because of cooperation of ulema and students of seminaries.

He said the seminaries would continue to spread education and reform the society.
