England inch closer to Ashes win

NOTTINGHAM, Aug 27: England took a giant stride towards a 2-1 Ashes series lead after making Australia follow on for the first time in 17 years, in the fourth Test at Trent Bridge on Saturday.

It was the first time Australia had been asked to follow-on in 191 Tests since Pakistan beat them by an innings and 188 runs at Karachi in 1988.

And it left England, with just next month’s fifth Test at The Oval to come, with renewed hope of winning their first Ashes series since 1986-87.—AFP
