By Our Staff Correspondent

QUETTA, Aug 27: Personnel of the Frontier Corps have been deployed in Qila Abdullah for holding second phase of the local body elections in 25 union councils of the border district on Sunday.

The Election Commission of Pakistan had postponed the second phase of the polls in Qila Abdullah on the request of the Balochistan government and fixed Aug 28 for the election in the district.

Law-enforcement agencies have declared all the 25 union councils of the district sensitive and decided to make special security arrangements to ensure smooth and peaceful polling.

“We have completed all arrangements for holding free, fair and peaceful election in the district,” Qila Abdullah Executive Administrative Officer Mir Ahmed Nausherwani said, adding that personnel of law-enforcement agencies including police, levies and Frontier Corps had been deployed.

He said that army would also remain alert during polling in the district and would be called out if needed.

According to provincial election commission 781 candidates were vying for 305 seats including the nazims and naib nazims seats.

The election commission had set up 218 polling stations for 247,237 registered voters.
