Nisar declared best swimmer

PESHAWAR, Aug 27: Multan Zone lifted the army swimming championship trophy with eight gold, six silver and one bronze medals at the five-day contest held at the Engineers Centre Swimming Pool in Risalpur on Saturday.

Multan Zone also set four new records on the concluding day of the championship.

Rawalpindi secured second, while Karachi got the third spot. Seven army records were improved during the championship.

Lance Naik Nisar Ahmad of Multan was declared the best swimmer with three golds.

He set two new records in 200 and 400 meters individual medley.

Naik Mehboob Ali set two new records in 400 and 1500 meters freestyle swimming.

Another two new records were also set by the Multan Zone team in 4X100 and 4X200 meters freestyle relays, while the Rawalpindi Zone created new record in 4X100 meters relay.

Naik Adil Baig won gold medal in 50 and 100 meters freestyle, while Naik Mehboob Ali won gold medals in 200, 400 and 1500 meters freestyle.

Naik Imdad Ali grabbed gold in 50 and 200 meters backstroke. Lance Naik Faiz Mohammad secured first position in 100 meters backstroke and Naik Sanaullah won gold in 200 breaststroke.

Havaldar Zulfiqar Ali managed to win gold in 50 meters butterfly, while Naik Mohammad Ibrahim won gold in 200 meters butterfly.

Havaldar Nasir Mehmood won gold in 50 and 100m breaststroke.

A total of 300 swimmers from Mangla, Multan, Lahore, Karachi, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Quetta, Gujranwala and Bahawalpur contested in 19 events.
