LAHORE, Aug 27: Around 35 probables appeared in trials held at the Punjab Stadium to select players for the Punjab women football training camp.
The camp will start at the same venue from Sept 1 and a final team will be picked to take part in next month’s first national championship.
The girls, mostly from schools showed keen interest in the game which is being introduced for women at national level for the first time.
The players were tested in two sessions with different combinations.
Secretary of the Punjab Football Association, Malik Aziz, said that though the players were not skillful they had enough interest and potential. They were quite able to hone the skills in the training camp, he said.
He said that the number of probables was encouraging since it was the first occasion and hopefully the base would be enlarged in the coming years.
The trials were conducted by a selection committee headed by Syed Khawer Shah.
He said that 25 probables will be selected to attend a training camp being held at the Punjab Stadium from Sept 1.
The names of the trainees will be announced later.
