Candidate alleges rigging

CHITRAL, Aug 27: A candidate for Chitral-I union council nazim on Saturday alleged rigging in the election and demanded fresh polling in four polling stations. Speaking at a press conference, Shahzada Ameer Hasanatuddin threatened to resist the elected nazim’s attendance of his office if repelling was not held.

He said 4,192 votes were cast for the post of nazim in his area while 3,897 votes were cast for councillors’ seats.

He said the difference in the number of votes showed that additional ballot papers had been used in favour of his rival candidate.

He alleged that his polling agents were expelled from the polling stations at the Government Commerce College and the Government High School, Chitral.

He alleged that the woman presiding officer in one of the polling stations was a relative of his rival candidate and a number of rejected ballot papers from there were missing.
