PESHAWAR, Aug 27: An inmate of the Welfare Home for Children, Kohat, has filed a petition in the Peshawar High Court, requesting cancellation of the bail granted to a former official of the centre charged with abusing him.

The accused, Qari Amir Saleem, was a teacher of theology at the welfare home. At the time of his arrest in July, he was serving at the School for Deaf and Dumb Children in Kohat.

The accused was granted bail by a court in Kohat last month. He claimed that he had been falsely implicated in the case by some officials of the department.

The petitioner has stated that the subordinate court had erred in granting bail to the accused, as he was not entitled to the concession. The high court will take up the petition on Sept 9.

The case was registered at the Jhangalkhel police station on July 7 under Section 377 of the Pakistan Penal Code.

The nine-year-old boy had the accused had sexually abused him two months earlier and threatened to kill him if he reported the incident to anyone.

The petition has been filed on behalf of the alleged victim by the Society for the Protection of the Rights of the Child and the Voice of Prisoners.
