PESHAWAR, Aug 27: The United Municipal Workers’ Association announced on Friday that it would launch a protest campaign for acceptance of its demands. The association’s chairman Malik Naveed said at a press conference that a protest camp would be set up on Aug 29 outside city district government. He said serving and retired employees and their family members would sit in the camp.
Later, a procession would be taken from the town-I office to the press club, where a protest gathering would be held, he said.
If the government did not accept the demands after the first stages, the workers would observe an indefinite strike, he said.
Mr Naveed said the problems of employees had multiplied during the past four years.
He said that despite instructions of the provincial government, sons of retired employees had not been recruited and favourites of nazims and ministers were allegedly being appointed.
He said the retired employees were not being paid pensions and commutation.
