Re-polling in 22 UCs in Sheikhupura

By Our Correspondent

SHEIKHUPURA, Aug 27: District Returning Officer (DRO) Allah Bukhsh Ranjah has ordered re-polling in 56 polling stations of 22 union councils in the district on Sept 1. The decision was taken after receiving reports by the presiding officers concerned regarding incidents of rigging, snatching of ballot papers and boxes and harassment of polling staff.

Police had registered 53 such cases on the election day and arrested 38 people. Overall 174 cases were registered by the police against 500 people.

Meanwhile, Nankana Sahib DRO Sheikh Muhammad Yousaf has withheld final results of two UCs of Nankana tehsil and ordered re-polling at two polling stations on Sept 1 after rigging reports.

RIGGING: Unofficial results of different union councils of Sheikhupura and Nankana districts have been changed.

This was alleged by PML-N MPA Afzal Sultan Dogar in a news conference here on Saturday at his residence.

PML-N city president Haji Muhammad Nawaz and MPA Sajjad Haider Gujjar were also present on this occasion.

He alleged that the ruling party’s parliamentarians used government machinery, resources and others negative tactics for their candidates.

“Despite all these tactics, we have bagged over 60 per cent seats,” Mr Dogar claimed.
