KARACHI, Aug 27: Secretary-General, All Pakistan Newspapers Society (APNS), Kazi Asad Abid, on Saturday invited entries for seven categories of the 17th APNS Journalist Awards.

Journalists/photographers/cartoonists of member publications have been requested to submit their entries in any one of the categories, which can also be sent on their behalf by their editors/chief executives.

According to the APNS announcement, the entrants are not allowed to send entries for more than one category.

The entries should have appeared in member publications of the APNS during Jan 1, 2003-Dec 31, 2004. The categories are as under:

1. Best Investigative Report: Open for daily and periodical publications.

2. Best Scoop: Open for daily publications only.

3. Best Column: In the sub-categories of English, Urdu and regional language dailies

4. Best Feature: In the sub-categories of English, Urdu and regional language publications

5. Best Article of the year 2003 or 2004: In the sub-categories of English, Urdu and regional language publications

6. Best Cartoon: Open to all cartoonists of member publications.

7. Best Photograph: Open to all photographers of member publications. The photographs (six copies each) should be of standard size (10 x 12 inches).

The secretary-general APNS said that participants in the contest were required to send three entries in any one category (six copies each entry).

The entries must be submitted having composed/typed on separate sheets, without giving the name of the author and publication, with a copy of tear sheet of the publication.

For regional language entries for Best Investigative Report and Best Scoop, the entrants are required to submit Urdu/English translation of the entries as well.

Mr Abid said that sending of the entries should be the responsibility of participants and only in case where the names of the writer did not appear in the byline, the entry should be countersigned by the competent authority in the publication.

The entries should reach the APNS secretariat by Sept 15, 2005.
