HYDERABAD, Aug 27: Sindh Taraqi Pasand Party chairman Dr Qadir Magsi has expressed no confidence in technical committee’s report on water reservoirs. Speaking at a news conference here on Saturday, he said the committee’s report could not be an answer to genuine fears of people of Sindh.
He said upstream dams had destroyed agriculture, mangroves and fish hatcheries in Sindh and sea intrusion had swallowed 1.2 million land in the Indus delta.
He urged President Gen Pervez Musharraf to give up obduracy over Kalabagh dam and adopt serious approach.
He said the government’s indifference would be harmful for Sindh in particular and integrity of the country in general.
It was up to the government whether they were going to prefer integrity of the country or something else, he added.
He said a rally would be held on September 5 in protest against the government which would follow a big protest of people in Karachi on October 3.
Dr Magsi lashed out at SHO Bhittai Naggar and said government-sponsored rigging marred elections.
He said incorrect voters’ lists were provided to candidates to confuse them and polling stations were changed.
He said polling agents were issued authority letter by returning officers three hours before polling began.
He said one presiding officer left polling station without counting ballots in front of polling agents.
Referring to registration of a case against him for anti-state activities, he called for an inquiry by a high court judge into the matter to ascertain facts.
He said during his visit to Bhittai Colony polling station, he found about 400 people gathered outside polling station.
Mr Magsi claimed when he went inside the polling station he found an SHO casting bogus votes.
He said after his departure someone slapped the SHO and for that reason he lodged anti-state case.
He said the case was lodged to intimidate party workers so that they could not struggle against Kalabagh dam or oppose results of elections.
He said the registration of case was an insult to serious political approach and demanded that party workers Mahboob Junejo and Hakim Junejo be released.
