Committee to review Fata security plan
PESHAWAR, Aug 26: NWFP Governor Khalilur Rehman has constituted a three-member committee to review plan to reorganize the law-enforcement agencies in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas.
Presiding over a meeting at the Governor’s House on Friday, he said the process must be within the ambit of the tribal system and in accordance with the ground realities and security requirements.
Project Director Banaras Khan Jadoon said it would cost Rs1.21 billion over three years and it had been approved by the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council.
In the first year, Rs500 million had been spent on training of 1,865 Khasadars, construction of pickets and barracks and purchase of weapons, ammunition, transport and uniform for the re-organized force, he said.
The governor said the process of implementation of the project should be under proper command and in accordance with the laid down procedure.
The Fata security secretary will be the committee’s chairman and the political agents of Khyber and Mohmand agencies will be its members.
SHERPAO: Interior Minister Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao called on the governor on Friday and discussed various matters with special reference to the second phase of the local government elections. The governor and the minister expressed satisfaction over the performance of the law-enforcement agencies in the smooth conduct of the elections.
