Woolmer’s proposal turned down

By Our Sports Correspondent

LAHORE, Aug 25: A proposal by Pakistan coach Bob Woolmer to try out medium-pacer Shabbir Ahmed in the ongoing one-day series between Pakistan Academy and South Africa Academy was rejected.

Woolmer expressed his desire to check Shabbir’s bowling action, declared suspect during the last tour of the West Indies, in the second match of the three-match series.

However, Iqbal Qasim, chairman of junior national selection committee, overruled the coach by saying that Friday’s match at the Qadhafi Stadium was crucial for Pakistan Academy, who hold 1-0 lead after winning first game at the Bagh-i-Jinnah on Wednesday.

Shabbir was likely to be included in the final match in Sheikhupura on Sunday.
