SHEIKHUPURA, Aug 25: The district returning officer caught red-handed a presiding officer, an assistant presiding officer (female) and a constable on charges of rigging in UC-68, on Thursday.

Presiding officer Mohammad Ali, the assistant presiding officer (female) and constable Boota were held following complaints.

Meanwhile, reports said the polling was boycotted by a candidate for nazim, Khalid Virk, in protest against the alleged rigging by his rival, Mushtaq Zaildar, in UC-69.

Polling remained suspended at some 30 polling stations, including UCs 21, 24, 38, 42, 59, 65, 68, 73, 75, 87, 88 and 93, owing to rigging complaints and firing incidents.

In UC-59, the polling also remained suspended for some time as the symbol of a minority candidate, Raja Ehsan, was not mentioned on ballot papers.

In UCs 61 and 65, symbols of general councillors were also missing on ballot papers owing to the negligence of the election commission.

Meanwhile, ballot boxes were taken away by the supporters of candidates from UC-21, 26, 42 and 88.
