MIANWALI, Aug 25: The women voters refrained from exercising their right to franchize at least in two union councils of the district allegedly in accordance with the traditions of the area.

Reports said that the women in Paikhel UC, which has 4,000 registered female voters, remained aloof from the local polls as the area had no such tradition to allow the women’s participation in the election.

Similarly, at Bagrian polling station in Kacha Gujrat UC the polling was an all-men affair as the local traditions barred the women from casting their votes.

It has been learnt that recently some members of two NGOs working for women rights had also visited the areas to motivate women for taking part in the electoral process.
