AL QUDS, Aug 24: Israel and Egypt have reached an agreement on the deployment of Egyptian border guards along the southern border of the Gaza Strip, an Israeli official announced on Wednesday.
“We have reached total agreement with the Egyptians, there only remains the green light from the government and the Knesset (parliament) to be able to organise the signing ceremony,” Gen Amos Gilad, a senior defence ministry official, told military radio.
“This is an extremely detailed accord which fixes everything down to the number of pistols” for the Egyptian guards. The announcement comes the day after Israel completed its operation to evacuate settlers from the occupied territories.—AFP
