President approves World Cup 2007 plans, claims PCB

ISLAMABAD, Aug 24: President Gen Pervez Musharraf was apprised Wednesday of plans and preparations for the 2007 World Cup by officials of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) in Rawalpindi.
Cricket chief Shaharyar M. Khan gave a presentation outlining PCB’s proposals for achieving success at the tournament.
The president approved the measures being adopted by the board in this regard, according to a PCB press release issued on Wednesday.
The meeting was also attended by Abbas Zaidi, director Board Operations, coach Bob Woolmer, captain Inzmamaul Haq, former Test cricketers Zaheer Abbas and senior cricket administrators.
Musharraf appreciated the performance of the Pakistan team in recent months and acknowledged Woolmer and Inzamam’s role in transforming the players into a fighting unit.
The president underlined the importance of discipline and fitness and building a pool of reserve players for the World Cup.
