FIA told to curb human trafficking

By Our Staff Reporter

ISLAMABAD, Aug 24: Interior Minister Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao has said human smuggling has reduced by 37 per cent in the country. Reviewing the performance of Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) for the first half of 2005 here on Tuesday, the minister said despite 25 per cent increase in volume of air traffic, the FIA had managed to reduce the number of passengers travelling on forged documents to 83 this year against 133 reported last year.

He, however, directed the FIA to further improve immigration control to minimise human trafficking.

The minister approved the creation of 200 posts of lady assistant sub-inspectors and some supervisory posts in the agency for establishing more immigration counters at the airports for the convenience of passengers.
