ISLAMABAD, Aug 23: Chairman Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Shaharyar M. Khan did not attend last Monday’s meeting of the Senate Standing Committee on Sports because of his daughter-in-law’s illness.

There had been reports in certain section of press that he had opted to stay away from the meeting because he felt that the Senators were politicising cricket affairs.

However, in a letter dated Aug 19 Shaharyar intimated the Ministry of Sports that he would not be able to personally attend the meeting due to personal circumstances. He has mentioned that his daughter in law was in hospital.

The Senators wanted Shaharyar to explain what were the reasons that Karachi was ignored for a Test match and allotted only a One-day International during England’s forthcoming tour.

The Senate Committee will now be meeting on Sept 1 in Islamabad to discuss the matter.
