Drug control body to be set up
ISLAMABAD, Aug 23: Ministry of Health is in process of consultation with the World Health Organization (WHO) to establish a Drug Control Regulatory Authority in the country.
The WHO is expected to submit its report on the authority during the first week of September, an official of the ministry told the agency here on Tuesday.
He said the prime objective of establishing the Drug Control Regulatory Authority is to provide quality medicines to the people at reasonable prices.
The official said as a result of the government’s people-friendly policies, the prices of medicines in the country remained stable during the last three years.
In reply to a question, the official said the essential medicines for HIV/Aids, cancer, rabies and snake-bite were being imported from India.
The ministry had arranged meetings with the local pharmaceutical companies to produce these medicines.
The official said the National Assembly’s standing committee on health had already reviewed the bill on traditional homeopathy, which is expected to be tabled in the forthcoming NA session.
He said by end of this year there would be no case of polio in the country.—APP
