KARACHI, Aug 23: A division bench of the Sindh High Court, comprising Chief Justice Sabihuddin Ahmed and Justice Mohammad Afzal Soomro, on Tuesday issued notice on a contempt of court application filed by Asif Razzak Soomro, advocate, on behalf of a petitioner, Sameeruddin Durrani, who challenged the reconstitution of union council limits of Rato Dero.

The bench earlier allowing a constitution petition by applicant/ petitioner Sameeruddin directed the Sindh government to hold elections according to old UCs’ or postpone the same till new UCs as per section 6 of SLGO 2002 are re-constituted.

The petitioner moved the contempt application on knowing that the elections are being held on Aug 25 as per newly reconstituted UCs in violation of orders passed by the SHC bench. Asif Razzak Soomro also filed an application for staying the elections as scheduled.

The bench, after hearing the counsel, issued notice on contempt application to the AG Sindh for Wednesday.

According to petitioner, four Dehs namely Nazeer Detho, Panjo Kinaro, Salar Jarwar and Shadi Abro were removed from the Rato Dero Taluqa (Larkana district) constituency of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto and included or transferred to Garhi Yasin Taluqa of District Shiarpur in violation of section 6 of SLGO. Even the tapedari circle was badly mutilated, the petitioners’ counsel has submitted before the court.—APP
