KARACHI, Aug 23: The Federal Secretary Planning and Development, Humayun Farshori, on Tuesday visited the two developing Taisar and Baldia sites of the Lyari Expressway Resettlement Project (LERP).
He has taken round of various infrastructure facilities developed so far at the two sites.
In a briefing on the occasion, the Project Director Shafiqur Rehman Paracha, said as per survey report some 14,811 residential plots of 80 sq-yards were planned at the three sites of Hawkesbay, Taisar and Baldia.
However, following the decision of the Sindh High Court to count each level of multi-storeyed buildings as a separate unit, being separate family residing per unit and due to difference in the initial and final survey, the number of plots to be provided to those affected by the LEW project increased to over 24,000.
He said an area of 539 acres was allocated for 14,811 families and 501 acres land made available to LERP upon demarcation and taking over physical possession of designated sectors of Hawkesbay, Taisar and Baldia sites incorporating 12.702 planned plots.
He said an additional area of 281 acres was added on an emergency basis to account for shortfall area and anticipatory number of enhanced affected families at Hawkesbay and Taiser towns envisaging 18,284 planned plots.
Paracha said recently additional area of 236 acres was again added bringing the total allocated land for over 24,000 families to 1018 acres.
Giving break down, he said, 218 acres of land for 5,434 plots of 80 sq-yards was allotted at Hawkesbay site, 420 acres for 9,926 plots in Taiser Town and 144 acres to provide for 2,924 plots besides 236 acres added recently to create another 5,800 plots in Taisar Town.
He said out of 5,434 plots in Hawkesbay site, allotments issued till date in respect of 4,868 plots, physical possession handed over in respect of 4,846 plots and more than 3,500 families currently residing.
In Taisar Town, allotments issued in respect of 9,734 plots out of 9,926, physical possession handed over in respect of 8,033 plots and more than 7,645 families residing there currently.
Regarding supply of utilities, the project director said electricity had been commissioned in Hawkesbay and Taisar while work was completed in Baldia.
In Taisar water was being supplied through tankers and installation of water supply line from North Karachi Filter Plant of the KWSB was in advance stage of completion while in Baldia major portion of internal distribution completed while work is in progress on laying dedicated supply line from Paracha Chowk jointly with SUPARCO.—APP
