ISLAMABAD, Aug 22: Tanveer Ashiq and Abbas Raza were among the players advancing to the quarterfinals on Monday of the Freedom Cup Juniors tennis tournament at the PTF Complex.

Playing in the under-17 category, Tanveer outplayed Fahad Ali Raja 6-1, 6-1 while Abbas dispatched Taimur Rehman 6-2, 6-3.

Also making the last eight were Omer Babar, Usman Ijaz, Yasir Khan, Abid Ali and Khurrum Nazir, all of them scoring victories in straight sets.

Results (under-17 pre quarterfinals): Tanvir Ashiq bt Fahad Ali Raja 6-1, 6-1, Abbas Raza bt Taimur Rehman 6-2, 6-3, Omer Babar bt Gulfraz 6-1, 6-1, Usman Ijaz bt Yousaf Ajam 6-1, 6-2, Yasir Khan bt Tabish Raza 6-0, 6-3, Abid Ali bt Waqas Malik 6-3, 6-3, Khurrum Nazir bt Asif Ali 6-1, 6-4.

Boys under-13 quarterfinals: Yousaf Ajam bt Imran Farooq 4-0, 4- 2, Zohair Raza bt Faraz Arif 4-1, 4-2, Zahid Ajam bt Saif Ali Khan 4-0, 4-2, Farhan Shahid bt Umair 4-1, 4-2.
