Plea for recount in Sanghar UCs

By Our Reporter

KARACHI, Aug 22: The People’s Party Parliamentarians has demanded a re-count of ballots in the Jam Nawaz Ali taluka and re-polling in Mazar Khashkheli and Urdu School (girls) polling stations in UC Berani.

Speaking at a press conference here on Monday, MPA Shazia Marri said people had lost faith in the electoral process because the Election Commission had failed to enforce strict adherence to the code of conduct.

She said advisor to the chief minister, Imamuddin Shaukeen, and MPA Jam Madad Ali had campaigned for government-backed candidates in the district.

Ms Marri alleged that the DRO and returning officers were also involved in the rigging.

She said the electoral rolls were changed, leading to loss of hundreds of Awam Dost voters.

She said in UC Berani veiled women were arriving in hordes to vote and would not unveil since their faces obviously did not match photographs on the CNICs.

She said in Berani MPA Jam Madad Ali sat inside the polling station and cast bogus votes.

She said in light of blatant rigging candidates appealed to the RO, Jam Nawaz Ali taluka, to order recounting of all polling stations in UC Berani and re-polling at two stations, Mazar Khashkheli and Urdu School (girls) where proof of rigging had been given.

She said RO Shafi Mohammad Pirzado rejected the appeal and announced official results, stating in his order that “re-polling in polling stations Mazar Khashkheli and Urdu school (girl) of UC Berani does not fall under the authority of this office”.
