LG system failed to deliver: Allah Yar
ATTOCK, Aug 21: Chairman Public Accounts Committee (PAC) and leader of Ehtesab Group Malik Allah Yar Khan says the objective behind formation of his independent group is to provide justice to the people, to ensure honest and corruption-free administrations and to implement the rule of the law.
In an exclusive interview with Dawn at Khunda House some 80 km away from here, Malik Allah Yar said the second priority of his group was to provide a platform to the public to hold the accountability of corrupt politicians through the power of ballot and eliminating nepotism, corruption and extremism from the system with active community involvement.
Mr Khan said though the local government system was a public- friendly system, it could not be properly implemented due to which its benefits could not reach the masses despite having huge development funds and the support of the federal and provincial governments.
He said the local government system should have been launched in some district as a pilot project and after success it should have been enforced gradually in other districts but it was launched in the entire country simultaneously that aggravated the situation.
Referring to the poor performance of the district government in Attock, he termed it an epitome of maladministration, political victimisation, human rights violation and nepotism.
He said billion of rupees had been spent on various development projects on the basis of personal like and dislike.
As many as 142 schools had been upgraded but the required number of teachers were not inducted, while many were transferred from one school to another, he said.
The PAC chief said, under agriculture reforms package facilities were provided to the influential landlords instead of the poor farmers.
