MANSEHRA, Aug 21: There will be a tough contest in two of the four union councils of Mansehra in the second phase of the local body elections. In Union Council No.1, the panel of Imtiaz Khan and Mahboob Ali and in Union Council No.3, the panel of Syed Tahir Hussain and Haji Chanzeb appear to have an edge over their rival panels. Except for UC No.3, there is a one-to-one contest in other areas.
In Union Council No.2, there is a tough contest between the panel of Babu Mohammad Akbar and Syed Munir Hussain Shah against the panel of Babar Salim Khan and Haji Haroonur Rashid.
The panel of Babu Mohammad Akbar and Syed Munir Shah, having strong family bonds and influence in the area, seems to be in a strong position.
However, a tough contest is expected in Union Council No.2.
There is a very interesting contest in Union Council No.4, where the panel of Mohammad Viqar, brother of Captain Mohammad Safdar (Retd), the son-in-law of Nawaz Sharif, is contesting against the panel of Attiquer Rehman Jehangiri, a former naib nazim of Union Council No.2 and Mohammad Aslam Khan, a former chairman of the defunct Municipal committee Mansehra.
