Qaim says PML always strengthened dictatorship

By Our Correspondent

KHAIRPUR, Aug 20: People’s Party Parliamentarians Sindh president Syed Qaim Ali Shah has said that whenever the Muslim League has come in power it has defamed democracy and strengthened dictatorships.

Speaking at a corner meeting in Luqman on Friday, Syed Qaim Ali Shah said the Muslim League government has introduced novel methods of rigging like political, non-political, official and unofficial to win the local body elections.

He said the government had scored a record of widespread rigging in the history.

He said the Khushhal Pakistan Panel and all other panels were interested in power and not with the people when Awam Dost Panel received its roots in the masses.

He said in the first phase of elections, particularly in Karachi, Naushahro Feroze and Tharparkar, opposition candidates were being harassed and their agents were held hostage at some places.

Syed Ali Gohar Shah Rashdi said the chief minister was issuing threats and harassing government officers even naib Qasids and peons were forced to act for official candidates.

ELECTED: Nazim and naib nazim candidates of the PML-F backed Khairpur Dost Panel have unofficially been elected unopposed in all five UCs of the Naro taluka.

Three Awam Dost Panel nazims, Altaf Shar candidate UC Tajal, Qalandar Bux candidate UC Kheewari and Nazar Hussain Shah candidate UC Sikandarabad along with their naib nazims and councillor candidates appeared before returning officer Aftab Memon on Friday and filed their retirement applications.

After their retirement, the KDP candidates Sufi Qalab Ali for nazim UC Tajal, Allah Jaayo alias Seebano Mahar for UC Sikandarabad and Ali Nawaz Junejo for UC Kheewari have been elected unopposed.

Earlier, KDP candidates at two union councils, Kot Judo and Chondiko, were elected unopposed.

In all union councils of the Naro taluka, five nazims and naib nazims of the KDP have unofficially been declared successful unopposed while only one candidate for Muslim general councillor seat in UC Chondiko was in contest where election will be held.

After an adjustment on the local level, out of 65 seats of the taluka, eight seats of councillors have been given to ADP while 57 are giving to the KDP.
