Warne believes Aussies can win

EDINBURGH, Aug 19: Spin king Shane Warne has implored his struggling Aussie teammates to “find a way” to win next week’s fourth cricket Test against England and retain the Ashes.

Although the series is tied at one-all, Warne believes Australia can lift to overcome a rampant England at Trent Bridge.

“At the end of day you’ve just got to find a way. Find a way to get back in to game, find a way to build partnership, find a way to bowling partnerships, find way to catch a ball, find a way to stop it.

“All those little things that add up to putting in a good performance.” Warne believes “finding a way” should be Aussies’ slogan going to Trent Bridge.

While acknowledging Poms had both a form and mental edge at the moment, he said Australia needed to concentrate on executing its own plans better in first 30 overs with both bat an ball.

“At the moment we’re giving England so much momentum by dropping catches, not bowling two balls in same spot and missed fielding,” he said.

The champion leg-spinner said better form for some of his Teammates was not far away.

“I don’t believe in the saying, ‘you’re only as good as your last game’. I believe in that you’re only as good as your next game. You’re only one innings away or one game away from being back in form.

“So in this next Test it takes Gilly to come out and smash a 100, Hayden at top of order get 100, one or two of these guys come out and take ‘em on.”

Always on look-out for a mental edge, Warne looked to plant a seed of doubt in minds of Michael Vaughan’s confident team.

“They’ll be a bit disappointed they didn’t beat us in that last over,” he said. “They’ll be thinking should we have declared earlier. Ashley Giles wont be happy with his performance getting 0-90-odd on a spinner’s paradise on last day of a Test match to win a game. There’s a few individuals that aren’t performing.”

However, he was maintaining his respect for English pace attack, particularly for series superstar, Andrew Flintoff.

“We’ve just got to be a little more switched on when he comes on to bowl and find a way to get through. He only bowls five overs, so we’ve got to find a way to get through those five overs.”

“It is my last Ashes and my children are my inspiration in this series,” he said. “They’re the ones that I can just feel inside me, they’re ones stirring me on.”—PPI
