ISLAMABAD, Aug 19: Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz on Friday directed the Oil and Gas Development Corporation (OGDC) to develop proven reserves of oil and gas at Uch, Qadirpur and Sinhjhiro.
Mr Aziz also directed the corporation to accelerate exploration of oil and gas to sustain the growth momentum. He was attending a presentation made by OGDC’s officials at the PM House.
The prime minister directed the OGDC that in pursuance of the government’s policy to further develop the energy resources, the corporation should aggressively market itself, bring in latest technology and use all the resources at its disposal to increase oil and gas production.
Mr Aziz said with the increase in the demand for energy owing to the fast growing economy, the role of OGDC had become more critical in supporting government’s efforts to expand, explore and enhance new resources of energy.
The prime minister was informed that OGDC had planned to drill 57 oil wells this year and 107 next year.
Federal Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources, Amanullah Khan Jadoon and Advisor to the Prime Minister on Energy, Mukhtar Ahmed were also present during the presentation.
