Six remanded in police custody

RAWALPINDI, Aug 18: The Anti-Terrorist Court (ATC) judge, Manzoor Ahmed Mirza, on Thursday remanded in police custody six of the accused involved in Tuesday’s clash between two political groups.

However, the police are hunting for MMA MNA Hanif Abbasi who along with other political activists was booked under Anti- Terrorism Act (ATA) and murder.

Haji Tahir Khan, a candidate for naib nazim in UC-43; Nadeem Shah, Mazhar Hussain, Raja Nazir, Sajad Qureshi and Imran Nazeer were produced before the ATC by the police who sought six-day remand. The ATC accepted the police plea.

Meanwhile, some burglars broke into the house of Altaf Hussain in Sadiqabad in the absence of his family and stole defence saving certificate valuing Rs3.5 million, Rs100,000 cash, 25 tolas of gold ornaments and other valuables.

On the other hand, a number of cars were stolen from different parts of Rawalpindi.

Ayaz Khan’s car (MNM-7400) was stolen from Murree while Sial Badshah’s car (SGE-5100) was lifted from the jurisdiction of Pirwadhai.
