KARACHI: HR group reports rigging

Published August 19, 2005

KARACHI, Aug 18: The Human Rights Network (HRN) Sindh has observed that a number of irregularities, clashes, casting of fake votes and harassment of polling staff were witnessed in various areas of Karachi.

In its report released on Thursday, the HRN said in UCs 2, 5, 6, 7, 8 of Saddar Town, ‘groups of outsiders’ harassed the polling staff and took charge of the polling stations.

As such, the Al-Khidmat Group and its allies boycotted the polls in UC 7 of Saddar Town. The report also claimed that a van loaded with arms was seized.

In UCs 2, 8, 12 and 13 of New Karachi Town, votes were cast without checking national identity cards of voters, it added. —PPI
