KARACHI, Aug 17: Nomi Qamar cruised into the final of men’s singles of the Open tennis championship by beating Khalid Ali Nazar in the semifinal on Wednesday at Karachi Gymkhana.
Pakistan number three, Nomi, had to work hard against Khalid to win the semifinal 6-4, 6-4 in 80 minutes encounter.
Davis Cupper and Islamic Solidarity Games gold medallist, Nomi played outstanding game and displayed excellent returns to win the epic battle.
Rizwan Hussain beat Jehangir Rasheed in straight sets to reach the final of boys’ under-17. Rizwan won the semifinal 7-5, 6-4.
Iman confirmed her berth in the final of girls’ under-17 t by outclassing Anam Mehmood in the semifinal 6-0, 6-1 in straight sets.
Adil Gohari clinched boys’ under-11 title beating Nameer Shamsi in straight sets. He won 6-1, 7-5.
Nasir Mushtaq and Ghulam Abbas overwhelmed Ibrahim and Abdul Rehman 6-2, 6-1 in the doubles’ event of the championship.

Meanwhile, ten players will represent Sindh in the International Tennis (ITF) Federation Junior Under-18 World ranking tournament commencing from Aug 29 in Islamabad.
A total of 60 foreign players including 40 Indians have already confirmed their participation in the weeklong ITF event.
This is the category five event of ITF and also includes the doubles’ event besides boys’ and girl’s singles.
